DIRECTOR’S DESK CHRISTINA R. GHALY, MD
On May 3, 2023, LA Health Services introduced Los Angeles General Medical Center, the new name for our flagship hospital formerly known as LAC+USC Medical Center. The launch event and press conference were attended by Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda Solis from the First District, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and community partners, patients and workforce members.
Los Angeles General Medical Center is LA County’s largest health care facility and has a deep history within the County and with Angelenos from all walks of life. The unveiling of a new name for our historic facility marks an extraordinary milestone for the entire community of Los Angeles. The medical center dates to 1878 and serves thousands of residents across Los Angeles County every year.
The facility’s new name and brand reflect an active and intentional commitment to strengthen the trust between the medical center and the community of Los Angeles and to continue to expand its role as a partner in building healthy, full and long lives within the communities it serves.
The announcement received extensive media coverage from over 40 broadcasts, print radio and online media outlets including: Associated Press, La Opinión, Los Angeles Times, Los Angeles Post, ABC7 Los Angeles, and Telemundo 52. Additionally, our new name is being featured on several billboards, the inside and outside of LA Metro buses, radio ads and in advertising posters in grocery stores and coin-operated laundromats – all targeting the patient populations that depend on the services we provide. Congratulations to all who ensured the launch of our new name resulted in a successful and exciting opportunity to strengthen our connection with those we serve.
Congratulations are also in order to Dr. Barry Jordan, the Chief Medical Officer at Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center who was recently inducted into the New York State Boxing Hall of Fame for his work in promoting brain health and safety for athletes in the sport of boxing.
