Investigation of eConsult Referrals and Practices 1024 682 My Health LA

My Health LA is looking into a few issues regarding expected practices, professionalism, and proficiency regarding eConsult. One major aspect involves referrals of non-MHLA participants from CPs and partner clinics via the eConsult portal. As a reminder, only MHLA participants and those without insurance can be referred via eConsult. Patients with full-scope Medi-Cal cannot be referred via eConsult. Please do not start eConsults for patients with full-scope Medi-Cal.  Additional information regarding this can be found here, as well as on the eConsult FAQ.

MHLA and other DHS staff are currently working through current eConsult referrals to address referral of non-MHLA insured participants. In addition, DHS has noted that there are issues with providers being unfamiliar with either the eConsult platform or the processes in it. Due to this, specialty reviewers are having difficulties with their reviews, possibly delaying or outright preventing appropriate resolutions of the referral process. There is a robust selection of tutorials and video-guides that can guide users through almost all aspects of eConsult and its correct usage. These resources can be found on the MHLA website or on the eConsult portal.

Ahead of the next planned referral coordinator meeting (11 AM on the 3rd Wednesday of every month), questions can be forwarded to Philip Barragan (PBarragan@dhs.lacounty.gov) so we will be able to fully research any questions and address as comprehensively as possible.
