Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center is honored to be celebrating the Pride Month, an annual commemoration and celebration of the actions of LGBTQ+ community and supporters during a 1969 uprising against discrimination and persecution to achieve equal opportunity. Rancho’s LGBTQ+ committee and Cultural Diversity Operations Council is proud to celebrate LGBTQ+ Pride Month and promote diversity by showcasing poster displays of equality and inclusion, educational resources, campaigns against hate crimes, unique artwork and LGBTQ+ individuals who made an impact on history. Important figures such as Harvey Milk, Marsha P. Johnson, Rachel Maddow and more; and resources such as Human Rights Campaign and anti-discrimination laws were on display. To ensure high visibility of information, the posters were on display in prominent areas of both inpatient and outpatient buildings from June 7, 2021 to June 18, 2021.  Patients, visitors, and workforce members have joined the celebration and embraced the diversity and inclusion.

The goal of Rancho’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Questioning (LGBTQ+) Committee is to actively promote safe, inclusive, and respectful care that is consistent with Rancho’s mission and values of providing high-quality, compassionate and inclusive healthcare to LGBTQ+ patients and their families. The focus on LGBTQ inclusion and equity is reflected in Rancho’s designation as a  “LGBTQ Healthcare Equality Leader” for the years 2019, 2020, 2021 in the National Healthcare Equality Index (HEI) sponsored by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, with a score of 100 points (out of 100 points). The HEI requires facilities to meet four core objectives including: non-discrimination and staff training; LGBTQ patient services and support; LGBTQ employee benefits and policies; and LGBTQ patient and community engagement.  The Rancho LGBTQ+ committee depends on the members of the committee to help accomplish this honor, as well as the strong support from Rancho leadership and cooperation by the facility departments to provide the safe and welcoming environment for patients, visitors and inclusive workforce.
