Durable medical equipment (DME) are equipment and supplies ordered by a health care provider for repeated everyday or extended use. When a MHLA program participant is the recipient of medical services and is the recipient of DME, the healthcare provider that provided those medical services is responsible for offering the DME to the MHLA participant at no cost.

MHLA has recently received news that a handful of participants were going to LA County Health Services facilities to receive DME. While MHLA participants can receive DME at Health Services facilities, they can only do so if they require DME as the result of specialty services rendered by Health Services facilities. For any services rendered by a community partner related to primary medical care that results in the need for DME, the community partner would be liable for supplying the DME to their participants.
