Volunteer Opportunities
Rancho Los Amigos (Rancho) Volunteer Services Department (VSD) seeks to build a strong, healthy, and engaged volunteer program for short and long-term assignments. Reward yourself and make a difference in the lives of others by becoming a Rancho volunteer. Our volunteers gain experience while providing support to many departments and services throughout the hospital. We will match your experience, knowledge, and interests with the needs of our patients, departments, and services.
Our Mission:
Volunteer Services creates opportunities for partnership between departments and community members, to directly support and enhance the lives of our patients.
Volunteer Requirements:
Call on the 1st working day of the month after 8:30 a.m. to sign-up
- Must be at least 15 years old.
- Be dependable and have a strong desire to serve others.
- Commit to a minimum of 150 volunteer hours (minimum 3 hours per week.)
All volunteers are asked to maintain consistent attendance, a positive and cheerful attitude, be sensitive towards others, and be willing to learn and grow.
Onboarding Steps:
- Complete online application once cleared by VSD.
- Complete health clearance.
- Complete personal background / fingerprinting and reference check.
- Complete facility and department orientation.
- Complete required online trainings, including HIPAA and Confidentiality Policies.
Assignments are made based on the needs of the departments/services and the interest of the volunteers. Schedules are available Monday through Friday for morning and afternoon. After some training, evening or weekend assignment may be accommodated.
Volunteer Services Department works closely with the volunteers and their assigned department to monitor the volunteer’s performance. All volunteers are required to meet and follow the facility’s policies and procedures covered under the Rancho Orientation/Reorientation Handbook. Volunteers with low performance, high absenteeism, and/or unmet policies and procedures may be released from their volunteer assignment.

Duties of Volunteers
Duties may include:
- Arranging and cleaning equipment
- Assist nursing or therapy staff with individual patient treatment (i.e., acquire, transport, and/or stabilize equipment being used)
- Customer Service
- Clerical Assignments
- Disinfecting equipment
- Escorting patients to and from appointments
- Greeting patients and visitors
- Photocopying
- Preparing forms
- Recordkeeping/filing
- Running errands and relaying messages
- Stocking supplies
