Robotic Rehabilitation Research
Rancho is at the forefront of applying robotic technology in research and treatment of individuals with disabilities. There have been rapid developments of robots for the rehabilitation of sensorimotor deficits. However, many of these robots were technology-driven, limiting their direct application in clinical practice. We believe that robots should be designed based on neurophysiological insights underlying normal and impaired sensorimotor functions. Successful acceptance of rehabilitation robots requires interdisciplinary collaboration and background knowledge.
The mission of the Robotic Rehabilitation Program at Rancho is to facilitate the direct application of robotic technologies into clinical practice by serving as a bridge between industry partners and occupational and physical therapists. Our goal is to create a pipeline where robotic technologies and can be safely evaluated in the clinic in order to accelerate adoption into clinical practice.
