The Radiation Oncology Department at LAC+USC Medical Center provides effective and state-of-the-art care to both inpatients and outpatients. We also accept referred patients from our community partner clinics. Our Radiation Oncologists are board certified and our team of Nurses, Radiation Therapists, Physicists, and Dosimetrists are credentialed professionals. Our staff works towards achieving the best outcome by collaborating wit our patients and the interdisciplinary team. We offer both External Beam Radiation and Internal Brachytherapy Services. Radiation therapy (also called Radiotherapy) is a cancer treatment method that uses ionizing radiation to kill cancer cells and shrink tumors.
External Beam Radiation therapy comes from a machine that aims radiation at the cancer, and utilizes Photons and/or Electrons.
Fractionated Stereotactic Radiotherapy (FSRT) is a radiation therapy to brain lesions. This is a treatment for patients with brain metastases, which are considered not surgically removable.
This is a specialized type of External Beam Radiation that allows highly precise delivery of high doses of radiation to small targets. typically, treatment with this technique is completed in 3-5 treatments.
Non-surgical radiation therapy used to treat functional abnormalities and small tumors of the brain. It can deliver precisely-targeted radiation in fewer high-dose treatments that traditional therapy.
Brachytherapy is a type of radiation therapy used to treat cancer. It places radioactive sources inside the patient to kill the cancer cells and shrink tumors. This allows your doctor to use a higher total dose of radiation to treat a smaller area and avoid delivering radiation to some surrounding organs.
