Audiology
Audiologists are healthcare professionals who serve our community through assessing for hearing loss and providing appropriate intervention for the procurement of hearing aids. We aim to improve quality of life for our patients by providing them the gift of hearing and communication throughout their daily lives.
The LA General Medical Center Audiology team provides advanced comprehensive services for both children and adults to include hearing evaluations, hearing aid consultations, and vestibular assessments for balance disorders. Audiology is located within the Otolaryngology (ENT) clinic so that we can provide multidisciplinary services with our ENT team. Our testing and diagnoses assist the ENT in managing your care plan.
Audiologists perform various age-appropriate tests to check your hearing and balance and identify disorders associated with your symptoms. Our tests include:
- Diagnostic audiological evaluations
- Auditory evoked potentials (AEP) including auditory brainstem response (ABR)
- Facial nerve testing including electroneurography (ENoG)
- Otoacoustic emissions (OAE)
- Hearing aid consultation
- Electroacoustic assessments of hearing aids
- Vestibular testing including videonystagmography (VNG)
If you have concerns about your hearing or balance, talk with your doctor about a referral to outpatient Audiology. If you think you may have a medically related ear condition, a referral to the ENT service may be more appropriate.
