In honor of Black History month, Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center celebrated with a symposium, educational exhibits, presentations, and a campus event that featured African American food, art and merchandise vendors. This year’s theme was “Keeping the Dream Alive.”
“Keeping the Dream Alive” refers to continuing the legacy of civil rights leaders like Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. In doing so, we are reminded to keep our dreams alive by continuing to pursue and work towards achieving our goals and aspirations, regardless of obstacles, or setbacks. It involves remaining committed, motivated, and focused on what one truly desires in life. The journey towards realizing and conquering dreams can be incredibly fulfilling!
Black History Month is a time to honor and celebrate the contributions and achievements of African Americans, past and present. It is a reminder to recognize the struggles, resilience, and ongoing fight for equality to keep dreams alive. Black History Month events encourage learning and understanding of important historical events, such as the civil rights movement and the prominent figures associated with it. The educational events are intended to promote empathy and understanding.
By celebrating, it serves as a reminder of the ongoing fight for social justice and inspires individuals to continue working towards inclusiveness and an equitable and safe society for all. By highlighting the achievements and contributions of African American individuals, it inspires future generations to believe in their potential and strive for success. It also helps to break down barriers, instill confidence, and encourages people to pursue their dreams.
Heritage and culture are essential to acknowledging and appreciating the rich culture of African Americans, including traditions, music, art, literature, and cuisine. This recognition helps foster a sense of pride and identity.
