LA General Celebration of Black History Month
In February, our diverse LA Health Services community came together to celebrate Black History Month, a time to honor the significant contributions of African Americans to the United States and healthcare. Our celebrations were a vibrant mix of dance, drumming, fashion, powerful spoken word performances, and discussions beautifully showcasing the richness of Black culture and history while leaving a lasting impact on our collective spirit.
Our celebration at LA General Medical Center was unforgettable and included Grammy-nominated Aloe Blacc, whose presence made the celebration even more special. His performance of ‘I’m the Man’ encouraged the crowd to believe in themselves.
Last month’s celebrations at our facilities also went below the surface; we delved into meaningful conversations. By openly discussing anti-racism and the experiences of Black Americans, we showed our unwavering commitment to fostering a deep sense of belonging and love within our LA Health Services community.
As an organization, we wholeheartedly embraced the spirit of ‘ubuntu’ -‘ I am because we are.’ This powerful concept underscored the importance of collective recognition in our journey, reminding us that our strength lies in our unity and shared purpose. It was a month filled with meaningful connections and inspiration, propelling us forward on our journey toward a more inclusive and equitable LA Health Services
