Payroll and Benefits
The Payroll Services Section is responsible for all payroll related processes within the Health Services. This process includes, but is not limited to, ensuring the timely submission of employee timesheets, Timesheet Adjustment forms, payroll inquiries, Federal and State tax forms, verification of employment, Worker’s Compensation Claim forms, and Short/Long Term Disability vouchers. The Section also provides in-service and payroll training to timekeepers, managers, supervisors, and employees.
Benefits and Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) Sections
County of Los Angeles employees say their benefits play a large role in what makes the County such a great place to work. The Benefits Section strives to provide a level of customer service worthy of that view. We administer four highly flexible benefit plans (Options, Choices, Flex and MegaFlex) with their corresponding medical, dental and life insurance plans. These programs, made possible by Section 125 of the Internal Revenue Code, allow County employees to choose among a variety of pre-tax and after tax benefits. The County provides each employee with a “benefit allowance” to use to pay for these benefits.
The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), the California Family Rights Act (CFRA) and the Pregnancy Disability Leave Law (PDL) provide a means for employees to balance their work and family responsibilities by taking unpaid leave for qualifying reasons. These leave laws are intended to promote the stability and economic security of families as well as the County’s interest in preserving the integrity of families. It is important that the employees, supervisors and managers alike understand that there is a shared responsibility to comply with the regulations set forth under FMLA, CFRA and PDL. The County can be subject to complaints, fines and private lawsuits for failure to comply with these regulations.
