Language Access Highlights & Accomplishments: Office of Language Access and Inclusion 2022 Annual Report 1024 359 Health Services Los Angeles County

OLAI1As we begin the new fiscal year, The Office of Language Access and Inclusion (OLAI) is proud to showcase department-wide accomplishments in Language Access in the OLAI 2022 Annual Report.

Over the last couple of years, especially with the increased need for remote communication during the COVID-19 pandemic, LA Health Services has made great strides in increasing access to language services for our staff and patients.  Below are some our 2022 efforts highlighted:

  • Hiring more dedicated Healthcare Interpreter Staff at LA Health Services
  • Increasing access to remote interpretation by launching the LanguageLine InSight (Interpreter) App for use on:
    • Video Remote Interpreter Devices
    • Devices using the Virtual Desktop Infrastructure AND
    • Additional smart devices, including personal smartphones.
  • Launching the Language Access Services Communications Campaign focused on raising awareness on language access requirements and available services.

The 2022 Language Access efforts, led by OLAI, are based on direct feedback from our staff, patients and community.  In the annual report, you will also find details on local program highlights and “OLAI CY 2022 by the Numbers” that show key data on Language Access across LA Health Services.

In addition to increasing access to services and improving quality of services, ensuring that staff have the knowledge and tools to access language services has been a priority. As such, Language Access training toolkits have been created and LA Health Services Language Access policies have been updated and shared with staff.

The department-wide efforts to advance Language Access for all could not have been possible without the contributions and support of our OLAI Partners and Language Champions!
