Emergency Radiology
The Emergency Radiology section at Los Angeles General Medical Center is a key part of our Level I Trauma Center, providing expert imaging interpretation for our diverse and high-acuity patient population. Our five dedicated attendings work closely with Emergency Medicine, Acute Care Surgery, and other teams to deliver rapid, high-quality reports that directly guide patient care.
Clinical Scope & Collaboration
We handle a high-volume, complex caseload including trauma, musculoskeletal emergencies, vascular events, and body imaging. The Neuroradiology section interprets neurologic emergencies. Our close collaboration includes:
- Real-time consultations for trauma cases
- Joint case reviews with trauma faculty, fellows, and residents
- Weekly Acute Care Surgery M&M conferences
- Coordinating with Emergency Medicine to optimize workflow and imaging strategies
Our Role in Patient Care
LA General’s Emergency Radiology section is central to the care of our diverse and high-acuity patient population. We provide timely and accurate imaging interpretation, maintaining close, real-time collaboration with frontline clinical teams. Our work supports critical decision-making across the hospital, ensuring patients receive the most effective and efficient care possible.
Research & Scholarly Activity
Our section is actively engaged in research, with significant contributions made during the COVID-19 era and beyond, focusing on trauma imaging and the application of AI. Faculty:
- Present at ASER, ARRS, and other national meetings
- Serve as journal peer reviewers
- Publish journal articles, book chapters, and educational content
- Collaborate with ACS and other services on multidisciplinary projects
