The Breast Imaging Division at LA General Medical Center is dedicated to providing the highest quality patient care through the use of state-of-the-art imaging technology in a high-volume, compassionate setting. Our team of fellowship-trained faculty specializes in all aspects of breast imaging, including:

  • 2D and 3D mammography/digital breast tomosynthesis
  • Breast ultrasound
  • Breast MRI
  • Contrast-enhanced spectral mammography (CESM)
  • Minimally invasive image-guided biopsies (stereotactic, ultrasound, and MRI-guided)
  • Wire and wireless localizations before surgery

Our integrated approach and close collaboration with surgeons, pathologists, and radiation and medical oncologists ensure that each patient receives the most up-to-date clinical expertise and a personalized, unique treatment plan.  Our faculty are engaged in national and local research projects and are deeply committed to training the next generation of radiologists through dedicated teaching of residents and fellows.

We are proud to be part of the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services (DHS)-wide Breast Imaging Task Force, where leaders from all LA County sites collaborate quarterly to share best practices, quality assurance strategies, and review guidance to deliver consistent, high-quality breast care across the DHS.

Training and Education

Apply for Breast Imaging Fellowship Position at Los Angeles General Medical Center for 2028-2029 Academic Year:

LA General Medical Center located in the heart of Los Angeles County recently obtained additional funding for a one-year Breast Imaging Fellowship position. LA General Medical Center is a robust training program that has been educating Radiology Residents and Fellows for decades. This fellowship offers comprehensive clinical training in Breast Imaging for applicants who desire to gain advanced competency in digital breast tomosynthesis, ultrasound, contrast enhanced mammography, breast MRI, all breast related procedures including biopsies, and wire/wireless localizations. Up to 4 weeks can be allocated towards elective time/research activities. Fellowship applicants must be Board Certified or Board Eligible in Radiology and qualify for medical licensure in California.

To apply for the 2028-2029 Full Breast Imaging Fellowship, please complete the SBI Fellowship Match-Universal Application (which can be found at www.sbi-online.org/breast-imaging-fellowship-match-program) and return it to our Fellowship Program Coordinator, Brenda Renteria Gomez (BChakhbazyan@dhs.lacounty.gov) and Program Director, Dr. Sandy Lee (slee6@dhs.lacounty.gov).  Along with the completed application, please submit a written personal statement, CV, photograph, and 3 letters of recommendation (letters of recommendation submitted by the letter writers or your Program Coordinator). The 2028-2029 Fellowship Position will be part of the SBI Match Program and follow their dates/deadlines.

In partnership with the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine, LA General Medical Center offers two fellowship opportunities:

Breast Imaging Fellowship
  • One-year, non-ACGME fellowship
  • Comprehensive, high-volume training in benign and malignant breast disease
  • Expertise across all major imaging modalities: 2D/3D mammography, ultrasound, CESM, and MRI
  • Proficiency in multi-modality image-guided procedures (biopsies, aspirations, pre-operative wire and wireless localizations)
  • Active participation in clinical patient assessment and multidisciplinary care
Combined Breast/Body Imaging and Interventions Fellowship
  • One-year, non-ACGME fellowship
  • Training is split equally between breast and body imaging
  • Fellows appointed as Clinical Instructors
  • Rotations through diverse hospitals and clinics with exposure to mammography, breast MRI, body MRI, ultrasound, and interventional procedures
  • Broad case variety from multiple facilities near the central medical campus
  • Fellows are encouraged to participate in research, with many presenting at national radiology conferences.
