National Hispanic and Latino/a/x Heritage Month spans from September 15th to October 15th. Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center celebrates the rich cultural tapestry and invaluable contributions of the Hispanic and Latino/a/x communities during this observance each year.
This year’s theme, “Shaping the Future Together,” highlights the collective efforts needed to create a brighter, more inclusive future for everyone. Nearly, half of the county’s population identify as Latino/a/x and the region’s profound connection to their history and accomplishments is clear.
Hispanic and Latino/a/x Heritage Month is also a time to reflect on the continuous fight for social justice and equality. The Latinx community has encountered significant challenges, such as discrimination, economic disparities, and barriers to access in various domains. The Latinx community is instrumental in shaping the future with its contributions across education, healthcare, technology, and business sectors. During Hispanic and Latino/a/x Heritage Month, Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center recognizes:
- The individuals and organizations dedicated to uplifting our community
- The diverse cultures within the Hispanic and Latino/a/x community
- The remarkable individuals whose stories inspire us throughout the year
We encourage you to discover more about the culture, contributions, and heritage of Hispanic Americans during the Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center’s Hispanic Heritage Month event “Shaping the Future Together,” “Cambios De Raices: Moldeando el Futuro Juntos,” which will take place September 17, 2024, on the Don Knabe Plaza from 11am-1:15pm. There will also be various celebrations throughout LA Health Services facilities.
We also invite our staff to participate in our in-person Si Se Puede En Rancho Affinity Group, which meets on the first Tuesday of the month from 12-1pm. There is also a virtual meetup every 4th Thursday of the month.
Together, let’s acknowledge and celebrate the vibrant, diverse, and lasting influence of the Hispanic and Latino/a/x communities at Rancho Los Amigos and within DHS.
