Celebrating National Nurses Month 1024 699 Health Services Los Angeles County

This year, National Nurses Week, traditionally celebrated from May 6 to May 12 each year, is now a month-long May celebration to expand opportunities to elevate and celebrate nursing. As indicated in the theme for this year’s event, “Nurses Make a Difference”, the Office of Nursing Affairs overseeing the LA Health Services (DHS) Nurse Recognition Committee organized an event to honor our nurse heroes on the frontline throughout LA County.

The virtual event, which was held at LA General Medical Center on May 6, 2022 was a success! Aries Limbaga, interim LA Health Services Chief Nursing Officer & CEO of Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center and Jorge Orozco, CEO of LA General Medical Center provided opening remarks to the nursing workforce and acknowledged their contribution, commitment and excellent quality care to patients and the communities we serve.

Supervisor Holly Mitchell, Los Angeles County Board of Supervisor, Board Chair, 2ndst District and Christina Ghaly, M.D., Director of LA Health Services provided a message to the nursing workforce. Having encountered unprecedented challenges, our extraordinary nursing staff rose above and beyond the call of duty! They responded with strength, resilience, courage, and dedication, providing compassionate care to the residents of Los Angeles County, and transformed heartbreak into hope. Thank you for your service!

The Chief Nursing Officers (CNO) received the scrolls in honor of all the nurses from LA General Medical Center, Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, Olive View-UCLA Medical Center, Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center, Ambulatory Care Network, Correctional Health Services, Emergency Medical Services, Juvenile Court Health Services, Housing for Health, as well as the Department of Mental Health, Department of Public Health and LA County Fire Department.

With the support of the LA Health Services Office of Communication and LA General Public Information Affairs, we were able to capture our nurse heroes while providing patient care. Please take a moment to view the following links:
