Dr. Hal Yee, Chief Deputy Director of Clinical Affairs at Health Services was just recognized as one of the Top 25 Innovators by Modern Healthcare under the Quality and Safety category. According to Modern Healthcare, the Top 25 Innovators Awards and Recognition program “recognizes leaders who are instituting innovation and leading transformative programs that improve care by achieving measurable results and contributing to the clinical and financial goals of their organization.”

Dr. Yee was recognized for his invaluable role in initiating the e-consult program that allows primary care physicians to consult with specialists in order to expand access to specialty care. The program has now increased to approximately 20,000 consultations per month with a median of one-day review time. Among the outcomes, it was determined that 25% of the consultations did not require an in-person appointment.  For those who required an in-person appointment, wait times dropped by 17%.  All of this was accomplished without increasing staffing needs or no-show rates.
