World Food Day was on October 16. This day is shared around the world to remember the start of the United Nations Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) in 1945. World Food Day raises awareness of issues related to poverty and hunger.

Health Services staff determined that food insecurity among our patients increased during the pandemic and took steps to help combat food insecurity as a way of promoting improved health outcomes. Food insecurity means that individuals and families are unable to obtain a variety of nutritious food or enough of it to maintain health and wellbeing.

Health Services created a video of these efforts at LA General Medical Center. The food pantry is open to qualified patients in need. This is a link to the Food Insecurity Patient Testimonial – YouTube.  Health Services also has a Food Resources webpage to help patients determine where to find food programs or to speak with a clinic staff to explore resources and options.
