About Us

Antelope Valley Health Center (AVHC) serves patients in the Antelope Valley area of north Los Angeles County, including the cities of Lancaster and Palmdale and the surrounding communities. AVHC is part of High Desert Health System, a group of five clinics in the Antelope Valley area run by the Department of Health Services (DHS) Ambulatory Care Network.

Beryl Brooks Beryl Brooks
Administrator

Beryl Brooks is the High Desert Health System Administrator. She is responsible for operations at the five Los Angeles County clinics in the Antelope Valley: Antelope Valley Health Center, High Desert Regional Health Center, Antelope Valley Health Center, Lake Los Angeles Community Clinic, Littlerock Community Clinic and South Valley Health Center. Ms. Brooks has been the Administrator of High Desert Health System since 2003.

 

Ruth Oren Ruth Oren, M.D.
Medical Director

Dr. Ruth Oren is the High Desert Health System Medical Director and is responsible for clinical services at the five Los Angeles County clinics in the Antelope Valley: Antelope Valley Health Center, High Desert Regional Health Center, Antelope Valley Health Center, Lake Los Angeles Community Clinic, Littlerock Community Clinic and South Valley Health Center. Dr. Oren began working at High Desert Hospital (now High Desert Regional Health Center) in 1991 as Chief of Anesthesiology. She began serving as Acting Medical Director in May, 1996 and was appointed Medical Director in April, 1997.

Dr. Oren graduated from the Hadassah Medical School at Hebrew University in Israel. She completed an internship and two years of residency in Anesthesiology at the Chaim Sheba Medical Center in Israel and then completed her Anesthesiology residency at UCLA. Following a clinical fellowship at UCLA, Dr. Oren practiced as an Attending Anesthesiologist at Olive View Medical Center from 1986 to 1991.

 

Susan Knapp

 

Susan Knapp, MSN, BSN
Nursing Director

Susan Knapp is the High Desert Health System Nursing Director and is responsible for nursing services at the five Los Angeles County clinics in the Antelope Valley: Antelope Valley Health Center, High Desert Regional Health Center, Antelope Valley Health Center, Lake Los Angeles Community Clinic, Littlerock Community Clinic and South Valley Health Center. She provides leadership and oversight to ensure high quality patient and family-oriented care, regulatory compliance and fiscal management.

Ms. Knapp received a Masters of Nursing Degree from the University of Phoenix and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Health Care Administration from California State University, Dominguez Hills. She was honored to serve a four-year term on the Governor’s Advisory Committee for Managed Health Care and Regulatory Implementation.
