PROMISE

Maternal mental health issues can have significant long-term impacts on the birthing person, baby, and the entire family. We believe all birthing people should have access to the support and treatment they need and deserve.

We provide advanced and specialized support for perinatal mental health issues, including perinatal exposure to substances, through our PROMISE program which stands for Perinatal Resource to Optimize Mental Health Interventions and Substance Use Treatment Excellence.

PROMISE is a provider-to-provider consultation line where providers of prenatal and postpartum care can get assistance in how to assess, diagnose, and treat perinatal patients who may be experiencing substance use and/or perinatal mental health symptoms.

PROMISE provides education and can advise on any aspect of psychiatric or behavioral health care, including prescribing and managing psychiatric medication. PROMISE also shares valuable resources and information on our community-based partners to help connect patients to additional support or adjunctive services and ongoing care.

PROMISE is available to DHS providers Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm by calling (833) 374-4MMH or emailing promise@dhs.lacounty.gov

Together we can help build resilience, promote health and wellbeing, and provide transformative care and support for all mothers and birthing people.
