Our care team focuses on compassionate care and centers the physical, mental, and emotional health of all patients. Minimizing discomfort or pain during gynecological procedures is a top priority. We are committed to making your experience with us as comfortable as possible. Talk to your care team about the options available to you, including:
- Comfort measures – like a heating pad, dim lights in the room, having a support person or companion with you, relaxing music.
- Medication – pain medications, both by mouth or an injection.
- Local anesthetic – using a numbing gel around the opening of the vagina or administering numbing medication around the cervix.
- Sedation options – available to all patients, must be talked about before your visit or procedure. These may make you feel drowsy, so you will need a ride home.
- Minimal sedation – a single medication to lower pain or to help you relax, you are awake for the procedure, and it wears off completely within 24 hours.
- Moderate sedation – known as conscious sedation, you get two medications through an IV to help with pain and relaxation. You may feel drowsy or even fall asleep, but can awaken when spoken to.
- Deep sedation – you are given medications to put you to sleep during the procedure; this is offered in an operating room.
