MHLA is pleased to announce the availability of transgender and gender management services at DHS. Gender affirmation services include:

Hormones for transgender and nonbinary people
PrEP and PEP for prevention of HIV infection
Affirming space for routine screenings
Puberty suppression for transgender and nonbinary youth
Coordination with mental health providers
Surgical options

Currently, services are available through DHS specialty care at LA General Medical Center and Hubert Humphrey Comprehensive Health Center. When appropriate, consultations with participants may be offered via telephone or video conferencing. The Transgender and Gender Management team is led by Katherine Gardner, MD, Tracey Samko, MD, and Clint Coil, MD.

To access these services for MHLA participants, Community Partners should initiate a dialogue via the Transgender and Gender Management option in eConsult.

Thank you also for those CPs who participated in listening sessions in DHS’s effort to expand care for the LGBTQ+ population. We may be inviting you or others to take part in focus groups or even a community advisory board. We hope that you will help MHLA participants who are seeking such care access it. Note that if they are receiving specialty care at DHS, they also can access free legal help with legal name changes through the Medical Legal Community Partnership.
