We encourage MHLA participants to stay in MHLA if they continue to meet the program’s eligibility requirements. However, they should promptly call MHLA Member Services if they move out of LA County or get health insurance. This measure will eliminate redundancy in coverage and improve cost efficiency, helping Los Angeles County to allocate funds where it is most critically needed.

Members should call the Member Services Line at (844) 744-6452 to disenroll for the following reasons:

Enrolled in Private or Employer Paid Health Insurance

Participants that are enrolled in private or employer paid insurance are not eligible for MHLA.

Moved out of Los Angeles County

Members that are no longer a LA County resident are not eligible for MHLA. They may be eligible for other programs in their new county of residence.

Enrolled in Full-Scope Medi-Cal

Participants are not eligible for MHLA when they have Full-Scope Medi-Cal at any age.

Turning Age 50 with Restricted Medi-Cal

Under the Older Adult Full-Scope Medi-Cal Expansion Plan, individuals enrolled in restricted Medi-Cal will automatically transition to Full-Scope Medi-Cal on the 1st of the month of their 50th birthday.

MHLA enrollment coverage will not automatically end until the last day of that month to create a one-month grace period. Members that do not have restricted Medi-Cal should apply for Full-Scope Medi-Cal immediately.

MHLA participants with restricted Medi-Cal should be disenrolled from MHLA the day before the grace period begins. They should inform Member Services that they will automatically transition to Full-Scope Medi-Cal on the 1st of the month of their 50th birthday to prevent overlapping coverage.
