In May 2021, MHLA launched a monthly texting campaign to two groups of participants: 1) Those due for renewal and 2) Those who have been disenrolled for failure to renew. The text messages below encourage participants to renew or reenroll and provide their medical home clinic’s phone number so they can call to schedule an appointment with a MHLA enroller.

Hello <NAME> This is My Health LA. You are not signed up in My Health LA right now. Please sign up again TODAY to get free doctor visits and medicines. Call your clinic at <ClinicNumber> and ask to re-enroll. To find your clinic, visit https://dhs.lacounty.gov/mhla. To opt out, reply STOP.
Message to Renew
Hello <Name>: This is My Health LA. Please renew TODAY to keep getting free doctor visits and medicines. You will lose this service on <MONTH> # if you do not renew on time. Call your clinic at #ClinicNumber# and ask to renew. To find your clinic, visit https://dhs.lacounty.gov/mhla. To opt out, reply STOP.
Initial results show the campaign is having a modest impact on the rates of renewals and reenrollments. We compared renewal and reenrollment rates between those we texted and those we didn’t text (because they opted out of being texted) and found:
- Those texted renewed at 1.11 times the rate as those not texted
- Those texted reenrolled at 1.14 times the rate as those not texted.
We will continue texting campaigns to encourage participants to stay or reenroll in the program and provide periodic updates of our efforts. In the meantime, we encourage you to update contact information (including cell phone numbers!) at points of contact with your participants so we have the most current contact information for all outreach efforts. In addition, if participants have questions about what MHLA will text them, please let them know we will remind them when to renew.
