While the Medical Centers care for the very ill patients affected by COVID-19, the Ambulatory Care Network<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0(ACN)<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0has taken on a key role in\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">c<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ommunity\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">v<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">olume\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">t<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">esting for Coronavirus.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Martin Luther King Jr. Outpatient Center, Edward R. Roybal Comprehensive Health Center, H. Claude Hudson Comprehensive Health Center and Bellflower Health Center\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">are supporting,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">large-scale<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, high volume,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">LA City testing.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">El Monte Comprehensive Health Center, High Desert Regional Health Center, Hubert H. Humphrey Comprehensive Health Center, Lake Los Angeles Health Center, La Puente Health Center, Wilmington Heath Center, and Mid-Valley Comprehensive Health Center and Glendale Health Center of\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">the\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">San Fernando Valley Health Center Group<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0(SFVHCG)<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0all answered the call to provide\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ACN based\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">testing in key areas.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">SFVHCG<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">developed an integrated model for robust testing of Health Services patients and community members at Mid-Valley Comprehensive Health Center and Glendale Health Center,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">dramatically increas<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ing\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">COVID-19 testing capacity over a short\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">period of time<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. Mid-Valley\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">CHC<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0went from seeing 67 patients in April to 1,456 in July, testing a total of 1,908 patients between April\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">and<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0July. Glendale\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">HC\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">recently\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">went live<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0on August 17, 2020<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, and despite very limited space<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, capacity,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0and<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">staffing<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">is testing<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0over 20 patients a day.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Both sites<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">are proud to\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">maintain a\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">five<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">-minute cycle time for patients, thanks to many workflow changes and countless trial-and-error attempts to refine the process.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The groundwork for drive-through testing at Mid-Valley CHC was adapted from Dignity Glendale Memorial Hospital\u2019s drive-through model<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. L<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">essons learned from Mid-Valley CHC w<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ere<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0then\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">spread\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">to Glendale HC<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. The<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">teams faced\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">rapidly changing recommendations and\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">E<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">xpected\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">P<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ractices<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">and\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">quickly changing procedures (i.e., the way patients can schedule appointments, type of test kit, etc.)\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">which\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">required staff to move quickly and think out of the box.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Some ideas\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">that work well for SFVHCG testing sites<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">:\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"1\" data-aria-posinset=\"1\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Using a rolodex to store all Health Services patient labels alphabetically, which makes it easy to find the correct label quickly.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233279&quot;:true,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"1\" data-aria-posinset=\"2\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">When it\u2019s busy, u<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">sing post-<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">its<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0to write down type of patient (i.e.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Pre-Op,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Health Services<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0or Fulgent) along with patient\u2019s name, date of birth, and appointment time<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, and sticking it on the car\u2019s windshield before they get to the registration station. This makes<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0it easier\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">for<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0staff at the front to register\/check-in \u2013 and in the case of Fulgent, activate \u2013 patients, and for staff in the swabbing station to confirm\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">two<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0forms of<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0patient\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">identification<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233279&quot;:true,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"1\" data-aria-posinset=\"3\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Using\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">VoIPs<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0and walkie-talkies to communicate between stations and\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">inside the clinics<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233279&quot;:true,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"1\" data-aria-posinset=\"1\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Using grabbers to give patients handouts and collect specimen kits \u2013 an idea taken from Bellflower, thank you!<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233279&quot;:true,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"1\" data-aria-posinset=\"2\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Team huddle<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">s<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0before and after each testing session to review\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">the\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">number of patients scheduled, test all equipment, determine roles,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">and\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">discuss what worked well and what did not that day<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233279&quot;:true,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Having a workgroup comprised of representatives of each department meet weekly to discuss progress, troubleshoot any problem that came up or may come up, and explore ways to improve.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;2\/5&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;9236&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221;][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;3\/5&#8243;][vc_column_text]<strong>1<sup>st<\/sup> stop at MVCHC \u2013 Identification, Check-in, and Education. <\/strong>When patients first arrive, staff at the front check the patient\u2019s identification and registration. Lab labels are placed on the windshield for Health Services patients. Fulgent lab kits are placed on the windshield of Community patients. All patients receive swabbing instructions, home isolation instructions, and either a LA Health Portal card or Healthvana handout as instructions on getting results.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_column_text][\/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;2\/5&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;9238&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221;][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;3\/5&#8243;][vc_column_text]<strong>2<sup>nd<\/sup> stop at MVCHC \u2013 Swab, Drop, and Go. <\/strong>Patients are directed to one of two lanes. There, a nurse explains how to properly collect a specimen and what to do after they\u2019re finished swabbing <em>before<\/em> handing them the collection kit. Health Services patients are instructed to hand back their kits to the nurse after they\u2019re finished, while Fulgent patients are instructed to drop their specimen in a drop location before they exit.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_column_text][\/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;2\/5&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;9239&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221;][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;3\/5&#8243;][vc_column_text]<strong>Park and Swab Testing at GHC \u2013 <\/strong>Capacity for testing at Glendale HC is much smaller \u2013 only three cars can be seen at a time. In order to prevent back-up onto the street, patients are directed to park in one of the three spots. If all three spots are taken, patients are asked to drive around the block and come back in five minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Once parked, staff walks up to the car to confirm registration and two patient ID. Once the patient is checked-in or activated, a nurse tag-teams to provide education and swabbing instructions. Like Mid-Valley, Health Services patients return their specimen to the nurse while Community patients drop theirs in a drop bin as they exit.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_column_text][\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]COVID-19 testing at SFVHCG has truly been a team effort \u2013 nursing, medicine, IT, health education, dental, facilities, and PAC took on new, constantly-changing roles with grace and a sense of humor that made testing so successful.[\/vc_column_text][vc_media_grid grid_id=&#8221;vc_gid:1640222880650-1079e9b7-0572-10&#8243; include=&#8221;9240,9241,9242,9243,9244&#8243;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]<\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false,"gt_translate_keys":[{"key":"rendered","format":"html"}]},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p> Health Services is fighting against the COVID-19 pandemic.
