About Chronic Wounds<\/b><\/p>\n

Chronic wounds affect\u00a0<\/span>approximately 2.5% of the U.S. population<\/span>\u00a0with<\/span>\u00a0Medicare expenditures estimated\u00a0<\/span>to be\u00a0<\/span>28.5 to 96.1 billion dollars<\/span>\u00a0annually<\/span>. Non-healing wounds\u00a0<\/span>are often complex<\/span>\u00a0with multifactorial etiology<\/span>. Due to<\/span>\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0pain, psychosocial distress, and physical disability\u00a0<\/span>of chronic wounds, these<\/span>\u00a0patients suffer a significant impact on their quality of life.<\/span>\u00a0Patients with \u201chard-to-heal\u201d wounds report moderate quality of life (QoL score: 52.18\u00b125.07) and satisfaction (satisfaction score: 68.91\u00b123.88), according to a descriptive cross-sectional study. Another study showed that patients with chronic wounds have th<\/span>e<\/span>\u00a0lowest health-related quality of life scores in domains related to physical role and physical functioning, with outcomes being especially poor for patients with wound-related amputations.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Purpose and Background<\/strong><\/p>\n

Founded in 2024 by Dr. Lulu Wong-Jensen, the Complex Wound Clinic at Harbor-UCLA is a monthly clinic aimed at addressing complex wounds through a multidisciplinary and multi-modality approach. Combining medical therapies with advanced medical and surgical bedside procedures, we focus on personalized patient care to treat this complex disease.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Complex wound patients are evaluated and treated in the monthly wound care clinic.\u00a0 Diagnostic and therapeutic care is offered for the management of chronic refractory wounds that are failing conventional therapies.\u00a0 Coordination of care is especially important for patients with challenging living circumstances, and access to wound care supplies is optimized.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Lulu Wong-Jensen<\/span>, MD, completed h<\/span>er<\/span>\u00a0undergraduate studies at\u00a0<\/span>California State University, Fresno,<\/span>\u00a0and received h<\/span>er<\/span>\u00a0medical degree from the Unive<\/span>rsity of Miami<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0She completed a year-long<\/span>\u00a0translational research fellowship in wound healing<\/span>\u00a0and regeneration<\/span>\u00a0at the University of Miami under the mentorship of Dr. Tomic-<\/span>Canic<\/span>, studying various molecular biomarkers present in non-healing wounds.\u00a0<\/span>After completing an internship in internal medicine at the\u00a0<\/span>California Pacific Medical Center,<\/span>\u00a0s<\/span>he graduated from Dermatology Residency at\u00a0<\/span>Loma Linda University<\/span>. Dr.\u00a0<\/span>Wong-J<\/span>e<\/span>nsen recently joined<\/span>\u00a0faculty at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center and is engaged in various efforts to build the clinical and research effort i<\/span>n chronic wounds at<\/span>\u00a0Harbor and<\/span>\u00a0in<\/span>\u00a0Southern California<\/span>.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
