Patient Care
At Harbor-UCLA, we are committed to patient care. The general neurology clinic is held Tuesday and Thursday mornings. In this clinic, we treat patients with strokes, seizures, headaches, neuropathy, and a large number of other diagnoses. Our subspecialty clinics are staffed by attendings with fellowship training or special interests in that particular area of neurology. Our faculty is trained in performing and interpreting ancillary testing so that patients can receive the necessary work up in a timely manner.
SERVICES
1. Electroencephalogram (EEG): routine and continuous EEG
2. Electromyography and nerve conduction studies (EMG/NCS)
3. Vagal nerve stimulation (VNS): device interrogation and programming
4. Botox injections: for select neurological conditions, including intractable migraines, hemi-facial spasm, dystonia, and post-stroke spasticity
SUBSPECIALTY CLINICS
Epilepsy/Seizure Clinic: The Harbor-UCLA epilepsy-seizure clinic is a subspecialty clinic that focuses on patients with either known or suspected seizures, including treatment of patients with medically refractory (difficult to treat) seizures. This clinic is overseen by both Drs. Pargeon and Chang, who are both fellowship trained in epilepsy and clinical neurophysiology.
Movement Disorders Clinic: This clinic focuses on diagnosing and treating patients with Parkinson’s disease, essential tremors, Huntington’s disease, and other movement disorders. This clinic is overseen by Dr. Diaz who is a voluntary faculty member and has completed specialized training in movement disorders.
Multiple Sclerosis Clinic: This clinic evaluates and manages patients with multiple sclerosis (MS), neuromyelitis optica (NMO) and related demyelinating autoimmune conditions. As the oldest operating MS clinic in the Los Angeles region, it offers comprehensive care for the underlying condition as well as its symptoms. It is staffed by two attending neurologists with strong interest and experience in MS, including Drs. Mehta and Langille.
Neuromuscular Disorders Clinic: The neuromuscular clinic treats patients with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease), Myasthenia Gravis, muscular dystrophies, and other diseases affecting the nerves and muscles. It is staffed by Dr. Adler, as well as a Dr. Chui, who is a visiting professor from UC Irvine. Patients who need muscle biopsies or genetic testing can be referred to the appropriate departments at Harbor-UCLA.
Stroke Clinic: This clinic evaluates patients who have been recently seen for an inpatient evaluation either at our hospital or another area hospital for a known stroke or loss of neurological function, concerning for a stroke. The goal of this clinic is to see patients within one month of their hospital discharge to be sure they are taking the appropriate medications after a potential stroke, and that their risk factors for future strokes have been appropriately addressed and managed. This is staffed by Drs. Mehta and Kronfeld, who both have specialized training and interest in strokes.
Botox Clinic: This is a specialty clinic for the skilled use of botulinum toxin injections as treatment for a variety of approved neurological disorders, including dystonia, post-stroke spasticity, hemi-facial spasm, and migraine headaches. This clinic is staffed by two of our voluntary faculty, Drs. Diaz and DiStasio, who have received specialized training in administering botulinum toxin injections.
