Ms. Ferlie Villacorte, MSN/MPH, CNS, RN from Harbor-UCLA Medical Center is the recipient of this year’s Richard Hader Visionary Leadership Award.

The Richard Hader Visionary Leader Award annually recognizes one “nurse leader who views nursing as both an art and a science by promoting caring and competence as the link between science and humanity.” The award recipient is determined by the Nursing Management journal editorial board. The Editor of Nursing Management said there was “compelling evidence that was deserving of this award” and that “she stood out as a nurse leader who understands authentic leadership”.

Her team wrote a compelling nomination highlighting Ms. Villacorte’s skills at promoting a positive work environment, improving professional development opportunities, creatively using existing resources and serving as a transformational leader in a time of rapid changes in health care coupled with a pandemic.  Her supervisor Dr. Griselda Gutierrez emphasized that “having the nomination come from her Nurse Manager team speaks to the culture she has created – one that Ferlie refers to as the

4 Es: Educate, Elevate, Empower and Enjoy. She truly is a transformational leader.”

Ms. Villacorte will be recognized at the Nursing Management Congress2020 in September and will be featured in the January 2021 issue of Nursing Management.

Congratulations to Ms. Villacorte on a well-deserved recognition.
