The recent surge in Covid-19 cases amid the Omicron variant has resulted in an increased demand for testing. In response, LA Health Services has increased testing capacity by 50% in just a few weeks. The capacity was increased by extending the hours of operation at sites across Los Angeles County, adding new week and weekend testing dates and ramping up our mobile testing units in areas that have been particularly impacted. All of these efforts are intended to ensure that people who need a Covid-19 test can obtain it.
On January 10, 2022, LA Health Services launched the “Pick-Up Testing Kit” program. The program allows LA County residents who have had difficulty scheduling a test to pick up a PCR test kit, perform the test and return it to a designated location. Results are available within 48 hours. The test kits also screen for influenza A and B.

At the end of December, LA Health Services relaunched the COVID-19: LA County At-Home Holiday Testing program on an intermittent schedule and with new guidelines to reach more people and make it easier to get tested. Any LA County resident who is symptomatic or believes they were exposed to COVID-19 can order a home testing kit. The kits are delivered and returned via FedEx. The test results are available within 48 hours after the lab has received the sample. The website has instructions on how to request the test kits, administer the test and return the sample for testing.
