Incumbents in these positions are licensed physicians that have immediate charge of a small medical section within a larger medical unit of a medical facility or a small program of a medical facility.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

The Supervising Mental Health Psychiatrist position in correctional setting offers a challenging and an exciting mix of responsibilities.<\/p>\n

Working with the Chief Physician, the Supervising Psychiatrist oversees delivery of psychiatric care to the inmates in this setting. He\/she is tasked with the responsibility of creating appropriate workflows and also creating and maintain a workforce that is able to achieve an execution of these workflows with a goal to bring care delivery to its highest efficiency. \u00a0He\/she is responsible for determining the staffing needs, hiring staff, maintaining staff, and managing schedules of various personnel that he\/she supervises e.g. psychiatrist and nurses. A Supervising Psychiatrist reviews performances of assigned staff and provides remedial guidance if necessary and also supervises patient care provided by psychiatrists, nurses and trainees.\u00a0 A Supervising Psychiatrist plays an integral role in formulating policies for Correctional Health Services and directly oversees the implementation of the policies. This includes fulfilling various Department of Justice provisions.<\/p>\n

A Supervising Psychiatrist collaborates with custody personnel and physical health team to co-ordinate various aspects of psychiatric care in a correctional setting.<\/p>\n

An important task of a Supervising Psychiatrist is to prepare and review reports to identify areas that need improvement. He\/she monitors the measures that have been identified as target goals in these areas.<\/p>\n

A Supervising Psychiatrist works to keep the morale of the work force high and the team effective.<\/p>\n

In essence it offers the candidate an opportunity to serve this underserved population and also take on a leadership role in this capacity.<\/p>\n

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Completion of a residency approved by an American Specialty Board in Psychiatry\u00a0-AND-\u00a0Three years of experience in medical practice, post residency training, teaching, or investigative work.<\/p>\n

LICENSE:<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

California State Physician and Surgeon\u2019s Certificate authorized by the Board of Medical Examiners of the State of California.<\/p>\n
