LA Health Services participated in the National African American Male Wellness Agency Run/Walk on November 5 at the Rancho Cienega Recreation Center. This was part of a national effort promoting health and wellbeing among African American males. This was the first year that Los Angeles participated. The walk has been held in other cities across the nation, and LA Health Services participated by providing health screening and health education services to the participants.
LA Health Services had nursing, social work, patient relations and behavioral health integration staff on site. Staff provided health screenings for over 127 people. Screenings included blood glucose, diet education, blood pressure and blood pressure screening.
According to their website, “By engaging the AA community in our prevention programming and health awareness campaigns the African American Male Wellness Agency (AAWellness) has taken ownership in saving the lives of black men and their families. Our mantra is for men to know their numbers, visit the doctor regularly, and get moving.”
