In November 2020, Olive View-UCLA Medical Center (OVMC) began the search for a certified Farmer’s Market organizer. We initiated a collaboration with Leonard Lozano, President and Founder of Supporting Arms, a non-profit 501(c)(3) whose mission is to promote healthier and more sustainable communities and whose presence is already seen in the certified Farmer’s Markets at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center and Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center. Together in partnership, OVMC Hospital Administration and LMTC Healthcare Transformation Advocate, Alina Mendizabal, are proud to share the start of our certified Farmer’s Market!
OVMC is committed to combating chronic diseases, promoting healthy eating and advancing the well-being of its patient population, employees and surrounding communities. OVMC’s certified Farmer’s Market opened on Friday, March 12, 2021 in Lot E, near the Emergency Room ambulance entrance and Helipad. The Market hours are 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. every Friday, rain or shine. Considering several active campus construction projects, we selected this location to provide easy access for hospital staff and vendors alike.
The Market offers a rich variety of fresh produce and vegetables, prepackaged yogurts, hummus, spreads and kettle corn. Cold Agua Fresca will be available to soothe the effects of the smoldering heat San Fernando Valley is known for. Stone fruits, berries, farm fresh eggs, dried fruits and nuts are available, too. We also have vendors with hot and ready food, such as tamales, pupusas, hot dogs, sausages, roasted corn, sushi and Hawaiian BBQ chicken and salmon.
OVMC patients and the neighboring community are welcome to stop by the new Farmer’s Market. Wayfinding signage and a banner are posted near Reagan Road and Olive View Drive in addition to social media advertising.
