  1. I'm currently in Healthy Way LA. What happens on January 1, 2014?
    ANSWER: If you are HWLA enrolled on December 31, 2013, you will automatically transition to Medi-Cal.
  2. What do I need to do to keep my doctor?
    ANSWER: Most patients who transfer to Medi-Cal on January 1, 2014 will keep their same Medical Home (clinic) and doctor without doing anything. Review any notices you receive from the State/County to make sure your Medical Home is correct.
  3. What's the difference between a "PCP" and a medical home?
    ANSWER: A PCP or Primary Care Provider is the medical provider who takes care of a patient's primary and specialty care. A Medical Home is the facility or clinic where the PCP works.
  4. Why are these changes happening?

         HWLA Transition to Medi-Cal
          Important Dates to Remember

October 2013: Patients will receive a General Notice from State of California/ Los Angeles County about the 2014 Medi-Cal transition & next steps. For a copy of the letter, click here. For a copy in Spanish, click here.

October 2013: HWLA redeterminations/renewals STOP.

November 2013 : Patients will receive a Plan Choice Notice informing you about your Medi-Cal Managed Care plan choices for 2014. If you want to keep the medical home you have, then you do not need to fill anything out.

December 2013: Patients will receive a Reminder Plan Choice Notice. Patients will receive Med-Cal Benefit Identification Cards (BIC) and Medi-Cal Welcome Letter/Packet.

January 2014: HWLA patients officially become Medi-Cal members!
