Genetically Handicapped Persons Program (GHPP)

GHPP offers full medical coverage for adults age 21 and older with cystic fibrosis, sickle cell, hemophilia and other hereditary bleeding conditions.  Children may also qualify.  Families with income more than $2,010* per month but less than $40,000 pay an annual fee based on sliding fee scale.

Who can get it?

  • Individuals over 21 with certain genetic conditions
  • Children whose family income exceeds eligibility requirements for California Children Services (CCS) must complete Medi-Cal application

How much does it cost?

  • No co-payments
  • Families with income above $2,010* per month but less than $40,000 pay annual enrollment fee based on sliding fee scale

  • Proof of income

What is covered?

  • Special care for specific diseases (cystic fibrosis, sickle cell, hemophilia and certain other hereditary bleeding conditions, etc.)
  • Doctor visits
  • Hospital care
  • Dental services
  • Durable medical equipment
  • Certain home agency services

Where do I go for care?

  • L.A. County DHS hospitals and clinics
  • Any GHPP approved special care centers, hospitals, and from approved private providers
